May I Drive Home, Take a Taxi or Other Public Conveyance?

NO. You must make definite arrangements for a responsible adult to drive you home and remain with you for the rest of the day. Please make arrangements well in advance of surgery to avoid cancellation of your surgery. You will be asked to complete the Postoperative Transportation Care Verification form and to name the individual you have chosen for your ride. Please do not allow your ride to leave prior to being checked in the preoperative area (if surgery is canceled for any reason, you will need a ride home earlier).

Should I Refrain from Any Activity After Surgery?

Yes. Do not drive a car or operate any type of power equipment for 18 hours after surgery, or while taking narcotic pain medication. Do not enter into any legal or business proceedings for 24 hours after leaving the Surgery Center. Upon discharge, you will be given an instruction sheet with more specific details by the recovery room nurse. Do not use alcohol or other drugs with your pain medication.

What is Required of Me Regarding Payment of My Surgery Bill?

All surgeries are scheduled by Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow. When possible, precertification for your procedure will be done by Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow. When necessary, alternate financial agreements for your surgery will be made at your preoperative appointment. You will be notified well in advance if your insurance carrier has concerns about paying for your surgery. Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow, however, makes no guarantee regarding payment by your insurance carrier.

Will I See My Doctor Before the Case?

Yes. You will see your surgeon and have an opportunity to ask questions.
