Amputee Therapy Program

Amputation of the arm at any level is a challenge. The best thing you can do is see a qualified therapist for an evaluation and amputee physical therapy as soon as possible.

We understand that no amputation is the same and that includes the type of therapy you need to recover. It’s important to have somebody who can guide you through the recovery process, prepare you for amputee and prosthetic physical therapy, and meet your unique needs.

Georgia Hand, Shoulder & Elbow is available to provide the amputee therapy you need to reach optimal functioning as soon as possible. Contact us to discuss how we can help you on the path to recovery.

What Services Does Our Amputee Therapy Department Provide to Amputees?

Our team utilizes a unique approach to amputee therapy that allows us to create custom programs to address each individual’s needs.

We work with your entire team and local prosthetists to ensure you are comfortable with every decision about your course of treatment. Plus, we collaborate to create a prosthetic physical therapy plan that works for you.

Our amputee therapy program provides these services to amputees:

  • A comprehensive evaluation of the patient’s functional and biometric abilities
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) retraining immediately after injury, before the prosthesis is fit
  • Wound and residual limb care
  • Strengthening and range of motion exercises for remaining joints
  • Splinting to protect the limb if needed
  • Splinting to restore a functional task
  • ADL retraining after the prosthesis is fit
  • Prosthetic care: how to take it on and off as well as charge the battery
